New Projects, Interests, and Challenges
8.20.07 I have picked up my clarinet again and am joining a community band here in Palo Alto!
7.29.07 I ran the San Francisco Marathon this summer with the AIDS Marathon Training Program. Here's a link to my fundraising site.
I have recently become a certified Sierra Club hike leader and have started to lead hikes with the Loma Prieta Sierra Club's Gay and Lesbian Sierrans activity section.
In May, 2006, I graduated with my Master of Arts degree in Education, with a concentration on Instructional Technology. I won an award for outstanding master's portfolio. Now that I have completed graduate school, I am focusing on other challenges/opportunities, such as ceramics, tennis, and guitar. I even picked up my clarinet for the first time since graduating from college five years ago and was suprised that I remembered how to play (even if my mouth muscles had atrophied significantly; I had to use level 3 reeds instead of my usual level 5!).
My next challenge will be running a marathon. I'm tentatively aiming for the San Francisco in July 2007. In the future I'd also like to run the Big Sur Marathon (March), the Mayor's Midnight Sun (Alaska) Marathon (June), and the Arizona Rock 'n' Roll Marathon (January). A triathlon may even be in the works!
Shannon, her dad, and I are also in the process of building a wooden kayak! We started in early August, and it's already taking shape quite nicely. It's a Pygmy Arctic Tern 14'. You can see photos of the kayak (which in the interim stitching stage looked a lot like Frankenkayak) at my flickr site.
